Kia ora Members

Thanks to those members who came along to our networking lunch on Wednesday, it was good to be able to get around and talk with so many of you and it was also nice to host Colleen Singleton from the Rotary Club of Wellington.
The big news I shared with the members at the lunch is that we have raised almost $70,000 from the World Press Photography Exhibition this year, which is a phenomenal result, thanks to everyone involved. Special thanks to Jeff Stangl for his expert leadership of the program and supervision of our event management company Crackerjack, Jacqui Bernards for herding the volunteers and filling in when some did not turn up, and Tony Caughey for the contribution of the venue from Smith & Caughey.
I need a member willing to take over chairing our Youth Committee, could you please contact me if you are interested.  This is one of the really interesting portfolio areas for the club driving our engagement through programmes like Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) - I personally find these activities inspiring and at the front end of what impact Rotary can make in our local community.  There will be expert support and mentoring for the Chair, and a committee to support you, so please don’t be shy, take advantage of this opportunity to lead.
Registrations are open for Breakfast with the Minister of Finance Hon Grant Robertson, Iet’s use the opportunity to get potential members and guests along.
Have a great weekend and see you on Monday when we will have Mark Yates from Ecotricity NZ will be addressing the Club.  It should be fascinating.

ROMAC Operations Manager NZ Needed
Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) is looking for a NZ Operations Manager.  ROMAC is a key programme providing life-saving and dignity-restoring treatment to children from Oceania developing countries.  This programme spans Australia and NZ and between 20 and 30 children are referred here (mostly to Starship hospital) annually.  We are looking for an Operations Manager, who is a Rotarian, to join our volunteer team, mostly based in Auckland.  Their primary role is to organise and manage the logistics of getting patients (and their carer) from the Pacific islands to NZ for treatment. This includes obtaining and managing passport, visa and immigration requirements, travel documentation and ROMAC documentation.  This role is part of the NZ Regional Committee with members who are supportive and have roles integral to the Operations Manager role.  Generally, this requires a commitment of between 7 and 14 hours per week, occasionally longer when uploading data into the ROMAC database and reporting.  If you are a Rotarian looking for a way to contribute directly to Rotary objectives and are interested in finding out more about this position, please email NZ Region Chair Glenys Parton at for a Role Description.
A Sherlock Holmes Mystery - 14 August
You are invited to join the Rotary Clubs of Epsom and Mt Eden for a Night of Mystery and Mayhem featuring Ken Ludwig's BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY, which is directed by Annie Whittaker.  Ludwig transforms Doyle’s classic "The Hound of the Baskervilles" into an hilarious comedy. The male heirs of the Baskerville line are being dispatched one by one. Five actors deftly portray more than forty characters as Holmes and Watson brave the desolate moors to save the newest heir. Can our heroes discover the truth in time? See how far from elementary the truth can be.
