Today week we will be hearing from the Prime Minister the cabinets decision on moving to Level-2. It will be a big relief to many businesses when we can finally have a date that we can know about when we can get shops and restaurants back open and have business open back up.  Add to that the government Budget announcements that we will receive on Thursday, and we have a pretty momentus week ahead.
We are Zoom meeting again today and will be hearing from Alan McDonald, from EMA.   Alan is the Head of Advocacy and Strategy for the EMA.  Many of you will have been receiving the regular posts from EMA on how to run business during the Lock-downs.  It is a great opportunity as we prepare to go back to Level 2 to talk with Alan.

Today we have a number of speakers
We have a number of speakers today (21 October), including two Outward Bound participants who were part of this year’s JR McKenzie Youth Education Fund / Rotary Outward Bound Course and RCA member Jayne Albiston, who will be talking about her recent participation in the Rotary Leadership Institute Seminar.  Please also note there is no meeting next Monday (28 October) as it is a Public Holiday – Labour Day.
Monday 4 November Lunch Meeting
We are holding a special lunch on Monday 4 November, when our speaker will be Russell Brown OBE, the Founder and Managing Partner of Lehman Brown International Accountants. This is a China-focused accounting, taxation and business advisory firm with operations in Beijing, Hong Kong and China. Russell has over 33 years working experience including 25 years living in China and has been involved in establishing and developing businesses in China. Previously Russell was Global CFO of one of the world’s largest public relations and communications consulting companies, Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce in China and is currently Treasurer and Officer of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in China. Russell is actively involved in many charitable events and is Past President for the Rotary Club of Beijing and currently Foundation Chair. Russell was awarded an OBE for services to British Business and the British Community in China. Russell’s talk will be about Doing Business with China now and in the future, and what positives are happening on the ground.

End Polio Now – Fri 1 November
District 9920 and 9910 are holding a Rotary in Action to End Polio Now event on Friday 1 November.  This is an opportunity to raise awareness for the End Polio campaign, as well as our Club and Rotary.  By riding the Auckland train network and/or being based at a train station, you will be able to raise awareness of the Rotary End Polio programme.  If you are interested in being involved in this project, then please contact Jacqui in the office.
Rotarian Action Group Against Slavery Dinner
The Rotarian Action Group Against Slavery has organised a fundraising dinner to help children rescued from human trafficking and slavery.  Dinner will be at the De Grant Thai Restaurant in Ponsonby on Thursday 7 November and will include an auction with fabulous prizes.

RYLA Interest Meetings

2020 Bangers to Bluff Car Rally
Organised by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay, the Bangers to Bluff Car Rally is approximately 2500km travelling on ‘roads less travelled’, from 24 March to 4 April 2020.  The cars (bangers) need to have cost less than $2000 and will drive from Half Moon Bay in Auckland, through to Bluff and then back to Invercargill, where they will be auctioned off.  This event is now in its fifth year and the 12-day event raises funds for a number of charities.  For more information go to or email
Habitat for Humanity Nepal Build
Habitat for Humanity invites you to join Jay Davies on a Global Village trip to the Kavre region in Nepal in March 2020 to build a new home for a family in dire need.  No construction experience is required, only an open mind and flexibility.  Cost is $2,800 + airfares and this covers accommodation, meals, financial contribution to the project, insurance during the build and Habitat gear.  For more information, or to secure your place on the trip, please contact Jay Davies at or 022 677 0614.
