As I am writing this to you, I think it is a good starting position to say, we are all still members of Rotary and Rotary is still here, we just cannot meet in person.

While it is now the new normal, that we are not able to sit down and have face-to-face meetings together for lunch and other committee meetings,  it is also important to say, that the connections that you all make as part of your Rotary network are more relevant than ever.  As people adopt social distancing, and the vulnerable or those living with vulnerable people, are having to take precautions to avoid picking up the virus,  we are moving to less and less personal contact.  To stay connected we can create new online places to meet and socialise with each other.  Now is a good time to make the extra effort to be an active member of your community.  You can look out for your neighbours (even drop your name and phone number in their letter box so they can contact you if they need help),  pick up the phone and call friends and colleagues, use more video conferencing to replace face-to-face meetings, and increase your other forms of communication.

As we are unable to all meet face-to-face regularly, we are exploring ways to make Rotary a weekly ongoing happening in your life.  There are already in District 9920 some internet-based Rotary Clubs across the Pacific,  and the Board has agreed in the interim, to experiment with a new idea for Rotary Club of Auckland and set up a private Facebook page to have an online space where we can communicate just between ourselves online.  Please note - the reason why we will have a Private Facebook page, is that it has no input from outside feeds, and you will not be subject to the feeds in open pages that is normal / annoying in the Facebook platform.

Already other organisations like churches, have started live-streaming their services, and so we want to try a new model too.  To start we will be encouraging members to make a weekly post on Monday mornings and as we get organised, we will update you on new activities.

As a Club we will continue to communicate with you directly through our email system, so please be assured that our standard communications will continue if you are outside the Facebook community.

Finally, we have a great membership in our Club who are able to look out for each other,  so if there are any members who are struggling to get to the shops, the bank, etc. due to self-isolation,  let a member of the Board know and the Club will give you a hand.

Have a great week.

No Monday Meetings Until Further Notice
After serious deliberation in the current climate, it has been decided to cancel all upcoming RCA meetings and events until at least May, when the situation will be reviewed.  This decision has not been taken lightly.

These are difficult times and we must all be aware of Covid-19 and take protective steps wherever possible. Keep well and safe and stay close to home.

I will still be online (office@aucklandrotary.org.nz) or you can ring me on 027 27 27 999 (office phone currently out of action due to equipment problems) if you have any queries.

Regards
Jacqui
