What an interesting and entertaining breakfast meeting this morning with the Minister of Finance, The Hon Grant Robertson.
I thought the Minister articulated the Government’s agenda particularly well, as it sets out to measure New Zealand’s economic performance through a wider lense than traditional financial measures. It’s ambitious and probably world leading, and will make our national priorities clear for all to see.  Thanks to those members who attended and helped raise money for “Give Every Child a Future”.  A great chance to showcase this project in front of the Minister, given the Government’s increased focus on Pacific Island development.
Next week we are not meeting on Monday, instead we have our networking lunch on Wednesday, again at the Heritage Hotel - I look forward to seeing you there.
We have also had the final presentations from the four Massey University business school teams, on future business model options for our Club. They came through with some great ideas and innovations, which we will discuss as a Board, and with Members.
We must collectively as a Club arrest the continued decline in attendance at our meetings, or change the model. The four Massey team reports offer some options to address this, but also ideas to develop the Club further in new directions, while staying focused on our core goals and values. It is going to be an interesting process for all of us.
Hei kona mai,
Brett O'Riley

Rotary National Science & Technology Forum
Each January around 168 of New Zealand’s top science students spend two weeks of their holidays at a special Forum in Auckland, prior to starting their last year at High School.  These students apply through their schools to their local Rotary Clubs and are selected for their grades and all-round ability.  The University of Auckland, AUT and Massey University combine resources to present diverse and stimulating academic sessions & experiences across a wide range of sciences & technologies. This is augmented by visits to science & technology enterprises in the Auckland region as well as a range of fun activities.  The central purpose of this Forum is to broaden these student’s horizons and assist them in making the best decisions about their future.  Two of these students are then selected to represent NZ at an International Science Forum in London the following year.  This rewarding Rotary run programme will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2019.  For further information please go to the following links or contact Jacqui in the office.
