Just a quick message this week as I am in the middle of preparing for the first home game for the Auckland Tuatara baseball team. It continues to be a busy time for us at Rotary is we prepare for the Christmas bowls event, this year to be played at New Zealand’s oldest bowling club, Auckland Bowling Club, which is in Grafton Gully, across from the Stanley Street Tennis Centre.  I hope you can all get along for this event, as it is a fellowship evening for all members and their families and friends and it would be great to see a good turnout.
Next week our speaker will be Malcolm Harris, the Chief Executive of WorldSkills New Zealand.  I look forward to seeing you there.
Hei kona mai,
Brett O'Riley
Wednesday NOT Monday Meeting Next Week
There is no Monday meeting next week (29 October), instead there is a Networking Lunch on Wednesday 31 October, again at the Heritage Hotel.  Then the following week we are back to Monday lunch at the Stamford on 5 November, when our speaker will be the economist Shamubeel Eaqub and when we will also be inducting four new Honorary Members, all of whom have recently retired from Rotary and between them were RCA members for 136 years.
Rotary Christmas Puddings
It is that time of year again to think about getting organised for Christmas and what better way to start, than by ordering some Rotary Christmas Puddings, whether for yourself or to donate to a worthy cause, or to do both - this year will be donating puddings to the Auckland City Mission.  Puddings are now packaged in a heat-proof bowl (though I still have some in tins if anyone prefers).  These puddings are still $20 each, with $5 being donated to our Club, so please contact Jacqui in the office if you would like to place an order – they can be purchased in any quantity (and come in cartons of six).
National Membership Seminar – 27 October
Rotarians are invited to the 3rd National Membership Seminar on Saturday 27 October at Kings College.  Registration opens at 9.00am, with the Seminar commencing at 10am and finishing at 5.30pm.  There will be two overseas presenters - Mark Huddleston from the Rotary Club of Seaford, Melbourne - author of Creatures of Habit and Barbara Mifsud from the Rotary International Paramatta Office.   Rotary Public Image Co-ordinator Liz Courtney will also be presenting along with many others.  To reserve your seat, go to, find the flyer and click on it to start the registration process.   There is a small charge of $50 to cover costs including refreshments and lunch.  For further information, contact Deb Gimblett ( or Jennie Herring ( or 027 293 2095).

2019 RI Convention – Hamburg, Germany
The Rotary International's 2019 Convention will be held in Hamburg, Germany from 1 to 5 June.  There are already nearly 30 people from different NZ Clubs attending, including RCA President Brett O’Riley and myself.  If you’d like to know more about this event and are possibly interested in joining us, would like to fly with and/or stay with other NZ Rotarians in Hamburg, let me know or reach out directly to the District Coordinator for this Convention: Jennie Herring:  Or if you would like to register, then please go here.  If you register prior to Dec. 15, 2018, you will receive an early-registration discount, which is US$395 vs. US$495 or US$595 at later dates.  District Governor Ingrid Waugh, also mentioned the possibility of a 10-day “Zurich-to-Amsterdam Cruise” leading up to the convention  and Jennie Herring can help us get the black shirts that all the NZers wear - which will really make us stand out!  So please let us know if you are interested in attending, so we can organise a couple of fun Kiwi/RCA activities, while in Hamburg!  And also feel free to run any questions by us
