I would like to acknowledge that last week, at their home in Remuera, Ron Goodey and his wife Lesley were presented with Paul Harris Fellows (PHFs) by District Governor Gary Langford and Past District Governor Ingrid Waugh.  Ron received two PHFs and his wife Leslie one PHF, in recognition of their more than 30 years of service on the Harold Thomas Rotary Trust, as well as to our Club and Rotary in general.  Congratulations Ron and Leslie.

Today we are planning to do something a little different at our 12:15 Lunch time Zoom meeting.  We would like members to join the meeting to discuss for 45 minutes the ways in which we see how our economy will be responding to coming out of Lock-down in anticipation of the move from  Level 2 to Level 1.

To inform the discussion,  members can also chose to tune in to the first of five daily sessions in the week-long Summit called VisionWeek (website  Visionweek.co.nz ), which runs from 10:30am - 12pm.  These seminars are free and anybody can register and log-on to watch via Youtube.  This is the first day of the Vision Week Seminars called "Opportunity NZ".  Interviews over the week will include opinions from:

  • Rachel Taulelei – CEO, Kono NZ
  • Andrew Grant – Senior Partner, McKinsey

NZ Red Cross Annual Appeal 2020
Red Cross is holding its annual street collection on Thursday 19, Friday 20 and Saturday 21 March.  The goal is to reach 4,000 hours of volunteer bucket-shaking time.  Please can you help?  If you could give a couple of hours (or more!) to collect, it would be appreciated.  The funds raised go to support programmes like disaster preparedness and response, Meals on Wheels, community transport, migration programmes and their Restoring Family Links tracing service (as provided after Whakaari/White Island).  Collections are being held across Auckland for the three days, so there’s going to be a site convenient for you if you can help.  Please call 0800 RED CROSS (722 776) and ask for Auckland Fundraising.

2020 Bangers to Bluff Car Rally
Organised by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay, the Bangers to Bluff Car Rally is approximately 2500km travelling on ‘roads less travelled’, from 24 March to 4 April 2020.  The cars (bangers) need to have cost less than $2000 and will drive from Half Moon Bay in Auckland, through to Bluff and then back to Invercargill, where they will be auctioned off.  This event is now in its fifth year and the 12-day event raises funds for a number of charities.  For more information go to www.bangerstobluff.co.nz or email rod@cookes.net.nz
