On Monday we have Ludo Campbell-Reid, Auckland Council’s Urban Design Champion as our guest speaker, who is always engaging and entertaining. With lots of public discussion around the changes to the CBD road network and speeds there will be plenty of questions I am sure. We will also be announcing our new President elect on Monday, so make sure you are along to share in this news.
 
Please make sure you get your RYLA applications in for next week, we want a strong contingent of young leaders from the Club.
 
Also, a big welcome to new Club member Dr Chris Jenkins.  Many of you will remember Chris from his luncheon presentation to the Club on Brexit.  Please make yourself known to Chris at forthcoming club activities.
 
And finally for those who knew Geoff Amos, his memorial service will be held this Sunday 28 April from 2pm at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in Westhaven.  Geoff was a larger than life Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Taveuni Island in Fiji and will be missed.

Next Monday 11 March – GM of the RNZYS
Next Monday’s speaker is Hayden Porter, who is the General Manager of the Royal NZ Yacht Squadron.  Hayden prefers boats with motors; but has spent his life around the sailing community.   Hayden now finds himself custodian of the America’s Cup and about to enter preparations for the next defence in 2021.
ER25 – Listen to Sir John Kirwan
We have been fortunate to get Sir John Kirwan (known as “JK”) for our next ER (Experience Rotary) event.  JK will be interviewed by President, Brett O'Riley, on the theme of ‘mental health as it relates to business and leadership’ and we will also have the opportunity to taste a selection of JK's own Jk.14 wines.  The aim of ER25 is to introduce new members to the Club.  Current members are welcome to come to the event if they bring a prospective new member, or are able to help on the night.  JK needs little introduction - the former All Black and 1987 Rugby World Cup winner has been an amazing campaigner for depression and mental health awareness.  These days he works in his ambassador roles for Westpac and Auckland Tourism, whilst continuing with raising the profile and assisting with mental health initiatives, including his involvement with the www.depression.org.nz website.  We hope you and your guests can join us for what will be a very special evening.

RCA Golf Day – Tuesday 9 April
This year’s Club’s Golf Day will be on Tuesday 9 April at the Akarana Golf Course and partners are invited to play.  If you are interested in taking part, then please let Jacqui in the office know, with your golf club membership number and current handicap, as well as any special requests, such as hiring a golf cart.

WANTED – Used Handbags for Women’s Refuge
The Rotary Club of Manukau Sunrise are looking for spare handbags, ones that are still in good condition, but you don’t want or use anymore.  The Club will then use these handbags, by filling them with personal items & make them into a much needed care package & deliver to the Woman’s Refuge. Some of the woman arriving to these centres have nothing. This will give them a little bit of hope, showing there are people out in the world that are wanting to help, even in this little way.  If you have any handbags you would like to donate, then please drop them off to me over the next few weeks at our weekly meetings, or they can be delivered to the Rotary office at 8 Greydene Place, Takapuna.

Cultural & Charity Night – 6 April
The Rotary Club of Auckland South invites you to their Cultural & Charity Night on Saturday 6 April.  Come and enjoy the experience and be inspired by the displays of cultural diversity that will be on show.

2019 Challenge Camp
Applications are now open for the Rotary Challenge Camp, which buddies up incoming Rotary Youth Exchange students with disabled youth aged 16 to 24, for a week of fun and challenging activities.  Activities include team building exercises, hearing inspiring disabled guest speakers, a visit to the Tree Adventures high-wire course, learning the basics of circus performance and a visit to the Parakai hot pools.  And on Thursday night there will be a concert where all camp attendees are expected to be involved.  All Rotarians are invited to attend the concert.  Our disabled youth are either physically, intellectually or sensory disabled.  Challenge Camp is a joint project of 30+ years between Rotary Clubs in Districts 9910 and 9920.  The venue for this year's camp will be Muriwai Surf Lifesaving Club, from Monday 13th to Friday 17th of May.  For more information go to http://www.challengecamp.org.nz and applications close on 1st April http://www.challengecamp.org.nz/application-form/

Rotary Leadership Institute
The next Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March and will be held at Selwyn College.  We encourage all new and existing Rotarians to attend, and especially those who will be taking up leadership roles.  This is an opportunity to learn from others, share ideas and challenge your thinking; discover more about Rotary and Rotaract and how this knowledge can help you contribute to your community, as well as providing an opportunity for personal growth.  If interested in attending, please contact Jacqui in the office, who will provide you will all the information you will require.
2020 Rotary Peace Fellowships
Each year, Rotary awards up to 100 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of our Peace Centres.  Through academic training, practice and global networking opportunities, this program develops the fellows into experienced and effective catalysts for peace.  The fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.  In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centres have trained more than 1,200 fellows. Many of them now serve as leaders at international organizations or have started their own foundations.  The 2020 Rotary Peace Fellowship application is now available and we need your help to find the next cohort of experienced global peace and development leaders!  Candidates have until 31 May to submit applications to their District and Districts must submit endorsed applications to The Rotary Foundation by 1 July.  General inquiries regarding the fellowship program may be sent to rotarypeacecenters@rotary.org.
2019 Rotary District 9920 Conference

2019 RI Convention – Hamburg, Germany
The Rotary International's 2019 Convention will be held in Hamburg, Germany from 1 to 5 June.  There are already nearly 30 people from different NZ Clubs attending, including RCA President Brett O’Riley and myself.  If you’d like to know more about this event and are possibly interested in joining us, would like to fly with and/or stay with other NZ Rotarians in Hamburg, let me know or reach out directly to the District Coordinator for this Convention: Jennie Herring: herringjennie@gmail.com  Or if you would like to register, then please go here.  If you register prior to Dec. 15, 2018, you will receive an early-registration discount, which is US$395 vs. US$495 or US$595 at later dates.  District Governor Ingrid Waugh, also mentioned the possibility of a 10-day “Zurich-to-Amsterdam Cruise” leading up to the convention  and Jennie Herring can help us get the black shirts that all the NZers wear - which will really make us stand out!  So please let us know if you are interested in attending, so we can organise a couple of fun Kiwi/RCA activities, while in Hamburg!  And also feel free to run any questions by us
